The Greater Sossusvlei- Namib Landscape (GSNL) is an almost half-million-hectare protected ecosystem, where neighbouring landowners have come together with a shared commitment to conservation. It includes the vast grasslands bordering the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the Great African Escarpment, and the spectacular Namib Sand Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This landscape is one of profound stillness, beauty and remarkable ecological significance. Here, nature unfolds at its own pace, offering travellers an experience that is both breathtaking and deeply unique.
The GSNL supports collaborative management approaches to environmental protection across priority conservation areas, and the implementation of the Strategic Plan set forth by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism.

In 2007, what started as a group of visionary citizens who saw the need for focused, large-scale conservation and biodiversity protection in Namibia’s iconic Namib desert and Sossuvlei area grew into a landscape-level conservation initiative.
Following years of work and growth, the Greater Sossusvlei-Namib Landscape arose. A voluntary organization, financially supported by its dedicated members, that aims to protect the integrity of its environment, its people, and Namibia’s tourism appeal at large.
